Mark Okwor is a seasoned investment and finance executive with over 20 years of experience spanning investment banking, asset management, global finance, and capital markets.
Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions at some of the world's leading financial institutions. He possesses extensive expertise in financial management, treasury, deal structuring and origination, bond trading, investment strategy, and risk management. His experience covers fixed income, debt securities financing, commodities, derivatives, structured and securitised credit solutions, and alternative investments. Most recently, Mark served as Chief Risk Officer at the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), where he oversaw transaction reviews and due diligence for the Authority's investment portfolio. His responsibilities covered credit, market, liquidity, infrastructure project, operational, environmental, social, governance (ESG), and climate risks.
Mark began his career in 2000 as an accountant with Barclays and later Aberdeen Asset Management in London, where he managed institutional multi-asset portfolios for pension funds, insurance companies, corporate organisations, and government clients. In 2005, he joined J.P. Morgan's EMEA Fixed Income Trading and Derivatives team as a Vice President, managing the bank's traded risk positions. In 2007, he became a Director at Lehman Brothers' Debt Capital Markets and Treasury division, where he played a key role in the restructuring and disposal of the firm's assets following its collapse. This involved a portfolio valued at approximately US$639 billion, comprising bonds, corporate loans, asset-backed securities, mezzanine debt, credit default swaps, and commodities.
He subsequently served as the pioneer Chief Executive Officer of Leadway Asset Management, Chief Operating Officer of Coronation Asset Management, and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Capitalfield Asset Management. In these roles, he provided strategic leadership across investment management, product development, business growth, operations, and financial performance, driving each firm's long-term objectives. Mark holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and an MBA from Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and has completed executive programmes in capital markets, investment banking, asset management, corporate strategy, and leadership across the United Kingdom, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
